Building Habits 101

In my years of coaching experience, one thing that a lot of people struggle with is sustaining habits. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Building is easy, you pick one and commit to it. But as time slips, habits chosen are usually set aside.

Hey! Life happens! โœ‹๐Ÿฝ

Admittedly, itโ€™s not as easy BUT it is doable. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿฝ Here are tips to help you build and sustain A habit. ๐Ÿ˜€

1๏ธโƒฃ Choose one first. Donโ€™t commit to a lot at the same time. This will help you be intentional with the one that you choose and deem a priority and important to you.

๐Ÿ“Œ Letโ€™s say HABIT : I will start practicing deep breathing to help clear my mind.

2๏ธโƒฃ Start insanely small. Specific and realistic.

๐Ÿ“Œ HABIT: I will take 3 deep breathes to practice deep breathing.

3๏ธโƒฃ Find a prompt so you are reminded:

๐Ÿ“Œ HABIT: I will take 3 deep breaths when I see the dog paper weight on my desk before I log on to my computer.

4๏ธโƒฃ Add THAN subtract, because resistance is harder to change than one you can easily add or are already successful with.

5๏ธโƒฃ Do it consistently and commit. Thatโ€™s why making it insanely small is extremely important! Set a reminder/ alarm on your phone. Or post a sticky note.

6๏ธโƒฃ But at the same time, be kind to yourself if you miss a day. Be intentional and purposeful sooner or later you will get to solidify the habit.

๐Ÿ“Œ HABIT: Tomorrow, I will take 3 deep breaths when I see the dog paper weight on my desk before I log on to my computer.
